Breast cancer is a disease where malignant (cancer) cells grow in the breast tissue. Its considered a heterogeneous disease- differing by individual, age group, and even the kinds of cells within the tumors. Usually it originates in the inner lining of the milk ducts or in the lobules which supply the ducts with milk.

Size, stage, and rate of growth depend on the treatment. Men can get breast cancer.

Women are most likely to get this disease however men that get it have worse outcomes due to late detection.

For 2012 the American Cancer Society estimates that 211,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed and 43,300 patients will die from it.

In 2010 there were more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.
