2 Local History Scavenger Hunt What technology is needed? Cell Phone with capability to take pictures and send a text message. Computer with Web access. Age it is appropriate for. 6-12 graders How would it be used? The cell phones would be used to take pictures of historical sites, geographic locations, or places listed on a map. Then, the students would send the images and notes to their teacher SCVNGER account by phone. What benefit does it have for students? Students will explore local historical artifacts, monuments, and phenomena, learn key facts about the local history of the community, and archive and document local history by taking pictures and text- message notes. What benefit does it have for teachers? The teachers would have the students active and engaged in the learning process. Also, all the data would go straight to the teacher’s SCVNGR account.

3 Using Basic Digital Cameras to Engage Reluctant Writers What technology is needed? Digital cameras (can be standalone or contained in devices such as the Nintendo DSi or cell phone); computer loaded with software such as PowerPoint, MS Photostory, or iMovie, (or even mobile apps) that allow the creation of slideshows/podcasts; printer Age it is appropriate for. 6 to 12 graders How would it be used? The students would use a digital cameras to take pictures of dramatic scenes they created. Then, they would load the images into a PowerPoint slideshow/podcast. What benefit does it have for students? Students will be able to use digital cameras to record a frozen, dramatic scene from a relevant class text, and then use the scene to retell the original narrative. What benefit does it have for teachers? Teachers will be able to use this program the story text in writing or speech for assessment.
