1
Running on Hydrogen Fuel Cells! Located in Chicago!
2
How Hydrogen Fuel Cells Work The hydrogen ions move through the electrolyte membrane to the cathode electrode where they combine with oxygen and the electrons to produce water.
3
Pros and Cons Pros Ultra clean (no pollutants) Reduces fuel cost Provides electricity and heat all the time Only bi-products our water, heat, and electricity Reduces green houses gases Cons Very expensive Hard to store the energy Highly flammable Dependent on fossil fuels Not easy to replace infrastructure
5
Passive Solar Design Significantly lowers heating and cooling costs Strategically placed windows and walls No fossil fuels needed for heating or cooling
6
Reflective Paint Reflects sunlight and its heat Worth the extra cost Reduces heat build up Lowers the price of air conditioning
7
Water Conservation Rain Barrel This easy attachment to the house’s gutter will pay for itself after a couple of months Collecting extra rainwater it’s like your own personal well The water collected from this can be used for gardening
8
Double Pane Windows Add insulation Increase energy efficiency Block harmful ultraviolet lights Create less emissions Reduce outdoor noise
10
Ingenious Insulation Straw bale Cheaper than traditional methods Low-embodied energy Simple installation and construction Produced from wasted grains Can last hundreds of years
11
Energy Efficient Materials Sustainable flooring Comes in bamboo, wood and cork Environmentally friendly All made from renewable materials Shipped and delivered in more efficient way
12
CFL and LED Bulbs Use less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs Last much longer than incandescent bulbs Creates same amount of light
13
Extension #2 LED bulbs last up to 50,000 watts and use 6-8 watts while on. On the other hand, incandescent bulbs require 60 watts and last only one 1,200 hours. If both bulbs are used up to their burnout point, how much more energy will the incandescent bulb use?
