2 Biography Part 1 Born July 30 th, 1863 in Dearborn Michigan. Showed interest in mechanics at young age. Left the family farm in 1879 to be apprentice at Michigan car company. Move around various jobs to where he believed he could learn more.

3 Biography Part 2 Ford returned home in 1882 but continued to work with machines (enjoyed being own boss). In 1891 Ford took a job as night engineer for Edison Electric and quickly moved up ranks. Also was experimenting with idea of self propelled carriage (created in 1896). He continued to improve on model and began efforts to make his own company.

4 Biography Part 3 Ford Motor Company was founded in 1902. Model T was introduced in 1908, popular due to low price and ease of use. Ford began to expand and use the idea of the assembly line and $5 day. Henry Ford's reluctance to change allowed competitors to gain market share.

5 Work Adjustment Theory Theory deals with how employees “fit” with regards to their jobs/careers. The degree to which individuals fit or don’t fit with job depends on a few variables. Abilities or degree to which someone is capable of doing something. Values or something someone is seeking from a job.

6 Work Adjustment Theory & Henry Ford From beginning Ford knew he didn’t want to take over the family farm. His abilities in mechanics lead him to peruse the apprentice job. His skills allowed him to be promoted quickly. Choosing to leave this job so that he could follow his dreams.

7 Work Adjustment Theory & Henry Ford ( Abilities ) The theory suggests jobs have requirements that must match employees abilities. Ford had ability to modify existing technology and transform it into a highly successful business. He was not satisfied with staying at his current job and wanted to use his skills for something greater.

8 Work Adjustment Theory & Henry Ford (Values) His values reached beyond simply being an engineer. Ford’s values lead him away from normal jobs and towards forming his own business. His old job didn’t give him the sense of achievement or the status he was looking for. Ford wanted to completely change the way we look at transportation.

9 Conclusion The idea of Work Adjustment Theory is important in choosing the right career path. Henry Ford had many different jobs before his success with Ford Motor Company. A combination of superior abilities and values that satisfied him lead him to his final career path.
