NEVER send PHOTOS OF YOURSLEF to anyone on-line, especially in response to a direct request. Consult with a parent before posting photos of yourself anywhere on-line.

3. How to Use Internet Safely?
NEVER arrange to meet anyone in person whom you have met on-line without first consulting a parent.
Be aware that people may not be who they appear to be on-line. Someone who claims to be a teen aged girl could be a 40-year-old man.

4. How to Use Internet Safely?
Trust your instincts.
If someone is sending you or chat requests that make you feel uncomfortable, listen to your feelings.
You don't have to respond to someone or do anything that you don't want to.
If someone contacts you on-line in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, tell your parents.
Parents can contact your, or the sender's, Internet service provider and ask them to monitor the situation.
Remember that the Internet is similar to the rest of the world. You should use the same common sense there as you would on the street or in the mall.

Guidelines to search Internet for what you want:
Step 1: Understand what is your homework…
What exactly are you looking for…write it down
Make sure that whatever you find on the internet exactly matches what your homework asked for
If it does not match exactly, then your teacher might ask you to do it again… this takes more time
Tip:
Ask your parents or teacher for help if you need it

Guidelines to search Internet for what you want:
Step 2: Be exact about your search…
Open up Google search…
We want to search for “The Portland Blazers Basketball Team”
a) Bad Example = type in “Portland”…
returns loads of stuff about Portland, but nothing about “Portland Blazers”
b) Good Example = type in “Portland Blazers Basketball Team”
Gives you link direct to Portland Blazers website
Tip:
If you just want images, use the Images button at top of Google page

Guidelines to search Internet for what you want:
Step 3: Make sure you select the right website…
Scroll down the page to see all possible websites
Read the short description for each website to see if it is what you want
Click on the website link highlighted in big blue writing to go into the website
When in website, read it careful, does it answer your homework?
If it is not giving you the exact answer to your homework, then you may need to go back out to main Google Page and look at other links
Tip:
If website says “Official”, then this is a good site to go to

Guidelines to search Internet for what you want:
Step 4: How to use the website to answer your homework
Read and understand all the information on the page
Write down on a notepad the important information that you saw
When you have finished reading the website & have written down the important information, then search some other websites
Read all websites that you need to so that you have all the information for your homework
Combine everything you have written into one answer that makes sense.
Tip:
Ask for help from parent or teacher to make sure you have answered your homework

14. How to create a PowerPoint Presentation
Guidelines to create a new powerpoint file:
Step 1: Click on Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office PowerPoint (use shortcuts also)
A new powerpoint template opens
On the first slide, type in the name of your homework, your name and the date
To Save the file, click on File > Save As > “Name of your file”

Tips about how to format a Presentation:
Slide always has a larger title at the top.
Slides are clean and simple.
Slides contain only bullets and not sentences. 
References of what website or book you found your information should be included at the end of the slide show for your teacher.
Example: (“Writing Executive Summaries”, 2007)
Sometimes, pictures are better than text (see step 3 on how to use images)

Step 3: How to insert an image
Find picture you want in a website or on your computer
Right-click on the picture and choose the Save Picture As option to save it to your computer in a place where you know how to find it
In your powerpoint slide, click on the Insert button at top of page, then choose the Picture option
Find the picture in your computer, select it and click Insert
Resize and move the picture so that fits in nearly into powerpoint

Click on Custom Animation
Select/Highlight the text or picture you want to have an animation on
On the right of page, click on Add Effect
