5 Using Internet FamilyFinder ßTo use Internet Family Finder: ßgo to http://www.genealogy.com/ifftop.html ßEnter the full name of an ancestor you’d like to find ßClick on Search ßInternet FamilyFinder gives you a list of pages containing that name ßclick on the links to see if the person shown is your ancestor Copyright ©2000, Alan E. 6 ßEnter the address http://www.genealogy.com/ifftop.html ßYou should see something like this: Enter the first and last name of the person you want to find more about For example, I enter Daniel Corley (as shown by red arrow), and click on search Copyright ©2000, Alan E. Mann

7 ßThe search results tell you 1. Where the web page is (Internet, user site, on CD) ß2. The title of the web page found ß3. The words on the web page around the name you searched for ßIf there’s more than twenty results, it has a “next page” option Let’s see what happens when you click on a link 1 2 3

8 ßWhen you click on a link, you’re transferred to the web page Internet FamilyFinder found. It could be anyone’s page, and could be located anywhere in the world In the Daniel Corley example, you’re taken to a web page of a Daniel Corley. This Daniel was born 1813 (see red arrow). 9 ßAfter you look at one link, press the Back arrow and check out other links until you’ve looked at all the promising leads ßIf you didn’t find any web pages (or not enough), try entering the last name only and search again ßIf you got too many links, try adding a middle name or initial ßNOTE that there are instructions to help you get more from the IFF (see red arrow at right) Copyright ©2000, Alan E. 10 ßNear the bottom of your search results, you may see links in the “Found on” column that say CD followed by a number (see red arrow, below) ßThese refer to CD-ROMs sold by Genealogy.com, and they want you to buy the CDs to see the information. ßYou can visit the Family History Library in Salt Lake to see these CDs, or have a volunteer look them by contacting the CD Lookup List at http://genweb.net/~gen-cds/cdlist.html Copyright ©2000, Alan E.
