History Began in 1824 as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Founders: Reverend Arthur Broome William Wilberforce Richard Martin

Making it Official 1840- Queen Victoria allowed the society to add the “Royal” prefix The current name is the same as it was in 1840

Prosecutors Martins Act of 1822 Supposed to punish abusers of animals like: Horses Cattle Sheep

Encompassing Other Species Plumage Act of 1919 Restricted the use of bird plumage for fashion Extended to certain species like Egrets
