5 Historical  The British Parliament had 2 houses since the 1300s  Most of the colonies had bicameral assemblies already They were used to bicameral ism!

6 Practical  The Framers had to create a bicameral legislature to settle the arguments between the New Jersey plan and Virginia plan  They wanted to keep the peace and make everyone happy !

7 Theoretical  The Framers wanted the two houses (Senate and House of Representatives) to be able to check each other  The Framers wanted to keep Congress from becoming super powerful and taking control of the other two branches.  They wanted to split the power of Congress!
