Location Togo is a long, skinny country that lies on the hump of West Africa. Togo is a bit smaller than our state of West Virginia. The land is fairly flat in the south, but gets more hilly as you go north.

Capital City: Lomé (about 1 million) Population: 5.9 million Main Languages: French (official), Ewe, Mina, Kabye, and about 30 other tribal languages. Main People Groups: Ewe, Mina, Kabye, and 34 small tribes (99%), Europeans, Lebanese, and Indians (1%) Religions: Animist, Muslim, Roman Catholic, Protestant. Many people mix their African religious beliefs in spirit worship with their Christian or Muslim beliefs.

The Land: Sandy beaches and coconut palms line the coast. A chain of mountains begins in the southwest and cuts across the land to the northeast. Above the mountains, the land is more rocky and rugged. People farm the land, growing yams, cassava, millet, corn, and tropical fruits. Coffee grows in the mountains, and cotton is an important crop in the north. Weather: Togo has a hot, tropical climate. Most days it is 85 to 90 degrees. The south has two rainy seasons, April through July and October through November. The north is dryer and gets rain only from April through July. Assemblies of God Facts: Nine U.S. Assemblies of God missionaries work in Togo. Some 250,000 people worship in the 1,300 AG churches. Two Bible schools and nine training programs train about 450 pastors and church workers. West Africa Advanced School of Theology (WAAST) trains church leaders from all over West and Central Africa.
