2 Targets & Warm Up Targets: Students will classify animals based on their structures. Warm Up: What does classify mean?

3 Classify Classify: arrange (a group of people or things) in classes or categories according to shared qualities or characteristics.

Vertebrate An animal that has a backbone ver·te·bra (noun): one of the small bones that are linked together to form the backbone

Invertebrate An animal that does not have a backbone

Jointed legs; legs and bodies divided into sections Covered by a hard, lightweight outer skin called an exoskeleton Examples: insects, spiders, crabs, shrimp
