Plants produce their own food by the process of photosynthesis

Roots of some plants are edible because they store the food prepared by the plant Eg: carrot, beet root, radish, turnip, sweet potato

Stems of certain plants are edible. Eg: Sugar cane, potato, ginger, lotus, onion, garlic, celery, asparagus etc

Leaves of certain plants are used as vegetables. Eg- spinach, cabbage, lettuce etc Coriander and mint leaves are used for garnishing as well as to add flavour to food.

Flowers of certain plants are edible Eg- banana, pumpkin, drum stick, broccoli, cauliflower etc

The edible fruits of plants are used as vegetables and fruits Eg- drum stick, papaya, tomato,chilli, pumpkin etc

The seeds of some plants are used as food. Eg- oil seeds like ground nut, coconut, almond, mustard etc Pulses like beans, peas, rajma etc Cereals like rice, wheat, maize etc
