Short Bio Born May 17, 1956 Named after Ray Charles Before he was 20, he won three National Golden Gloves titles, two AAU championships and the 1975 Pan- American Games crown. Leonard earned a spot on the 1976 Olympic U.S. team- Beat Aldama @ olympics Leonard had 145 victories as an amateur boxer. Couldn’t afford college so he became a pro boxer Born in Wilmington North Carolina One of seven children

On June 25, 1981, Leonard fought Ayub Kalule, the undefeated WBA World Junior Middleweight Champion. Kalule gave Leonard a tough fight, but Sugar Ray won via a 9th round TKO
