Topic sentence (outlines topic of paragraph) Body (states argument, gives proof, provides comment or discussion) Concluding sentence (restates topic sentence in a fresh way)

3 Your topic Choose a myth Then, choose ONE of the following topics:
1. Prove three traits a main character possesses 2. Prove three lessons the reader can learn from the myth

4 Example of topic sentence
Your topic sentence should include the following: The title of the myth The three traits or three lessons you will prove In the myth “How Prometheus Gave Man Fire”, Prometheus demonstrates he is brave, practical and clever.

5 Point, proof, discussion
Use this structure to make an argument and support it You will use this method in your English classes throughout high school and it can be useful in other disciplines as well

6 First: Make a point Example:
By stealing fire for man, Prometheus proves he is brave. Use a transition word to show you are starting a new point. To start, by stealing fire for man, Prometheus proves he is brave.

7 Second: Give proof Use a quotation as proof
Make sure you use your “Using Quotations” note to incorporate quotations properly Prometheus shows his courage when he says, "Mankind shall have fire, despite what Zeus has decided” (2).

8 Third: discuss Why is this proof important? So what?
How does it help prove your point? Prometheus is brave because he goes against Zeus, the supreme ruler of all gods, without hesitation to help mankind.

9 What does it look like all together?
To start, by stealing fire for man, Prometheus proves he is brave. Prometheus shows his courage when he says, "Mankind shall have fire, despite what Zeus has decided” (2).Prometheus is brave because he goes against Zeus, the supreme ruler of all gods, without hesitation to help mankind.
