Description The leatherback sea turtle feeds on jellyfish and is named for its smooth rubbery shell.If it’s an adult it should weigh 700 to 2,000 pounds and it is 4 to 8 feet in size.

Habitat The leatherback sea turtle is mostly seen in long islands off shore waters in the late summer.

Why is this animal endangered? The leatherback turtle is endangered because they have historically been taken only rarely for their meat.The greatest threat continues to be their eggs.

What is being done to help this animal? What is being done to help this animal is a substantial effort is being Made by government and non- government agencies and private individuals to increase public awareness of the sea turtle conservation issues. Federal and State agencies and private conservation organizations- ion such as the Center for Marine Conservation, Greenpeace, and National Audobon Society have produced and distributed a variety of Audio-visual aids and printed material about sea turtles.
