3. ‘ Evidence’, using close up shots to show emotion Our product, ‘Realisation’.The camera work we used is typical to a murder mystery. For example, we used close ups to show the emotions of the character. This give the audience an opinion on the character based on their emotions and/or reactions to a situation.

4. In our product we decided to use dim lighting to set the scene as an evening or late at night which fixes the genre and is a typical convention in murder mysteries. This was inspired by the movie ‘True Grit’ as it adds to the sense of mystery as not everything can be clearly seen which keeps the audience interested with a set of enigmas. 5. Develop Conventions We developed some typical conventions in our opening sequence, for example, the protagonist is usually expected to be an adult male detective. Nevertheless, in our product, the protagonist is a teenage girl, this may make her seem vulnerable or weak to the audience which could make them assume that her cannot carry out the task of solving a murder. However, by adapting the typical protagonist, it will keep the audience interested to see, beyond the first two minutes, that she is strong and determined to solve the murder. ‘ Sherlock Holmes’. 6. Challenge Convention Our product challenges typical murder mystery conventions as me do not show a murder being committed or a dead body. However we do show how the family has been affected by the murder of the victim, a husband and a father. This is important to the plot as we would intend the rest of the film to have flashbacks to the dead body and him being killed. As our product only gave hints to a murder having just happened, with the wife drowning her depression and sorrow with alcohol and a daughter worried about mother, I think it keeps the audience in suspense and therefore curiosity to watch further. Plus, we used the wine as a symbol of blood as another hint to the murder.
