2.  El Prado was located in Madrid, Spain.  Prado in Spanish means meadow.  The area of El Prado was once before a meadow.

3.  Has over 8600 paintings.  Some famous Artists in the museum are Goya, Bosch Tiziano, Tintoretto, El Greco, Velazquez.  To the right is one of Goya’s paintings, El Dos de Mayo.

4. Entrance of El Prado.  El Prado is the biggest art gallery in the world!  Besides paintings they have sculptures, drawings, and coins.

5.  El Prado comes from collections of Old Trinidad Museum and bequests.  In 1819, Fernando VII was in charge when the Royal Museum of Painting and Sculpture was created.  Then the king died and there were problems with inheritance so it then became Prado National Museum.

6.  Also inside is a huge library but you must submit an application to use.  The picture is a hallway full of famous paintings.

7.  In the museum there are also sculptures.  They are mostly from Italy between the 16 th and 19 th century.  Also a collection of classical pieces are done by the Greek. Velázquez Statue

8.  The Spanish school of art is a big contributor to the collection of pieces in the museum.  Some artwork is also from the Germans and French.

9. The Emperor Carlos V Subduing Rage. This was made by Leone and Pompeo Leoni.

10. One of the best known pieces of art in El Prado, by Velázquez.

11.  Tuesdays to Saturdays: 9am-7pm Sundays, holidays, 24th and 31st December: 9am-2pm Mondays: closed Closed 1st January, good Friday, 1st May, 25th December.  Besides just the museum they have a souvenir shop and a cafeteria in the basement.
