2 Patient Review of Physicians Physician Quality Measurement Blue Physician Recognition 2 BLUE SOLUTIONS: TRANSPARENCY SOLUTIONS Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota (Blue Cross) is launching Blue Physician Recognition (BPR) as one of three key initiatives to support consumer transparency. Patients can see which physicians or group practices have received recognition for their quality efforts. Recognizes quality improvement efforts across multiple disciplines and care settings.

3 Blue Physician Recognition acknowledges physicians or group practices that demonstrate a commitment to delivering quality care. 3 BLUE PHYSICIAN RECOGNITION: OVERVIEW Blue Physician Recognition Overview Guidelines Guidelines incorporate efforts of national medical specialty boards and societies as well as regional and local programs to promote physician participation in their respective quality improvement and recognition programs and resources. Displays Displays the Blue Physician Recognition icon in the Find a Doctor tool identifying those physicians or group practices that have demonstrated a commitment to delivering quality, patient- centered care. Highlights Highlights the role of the physician or group practice as a quality champion in the community.

4 4 BLUE PHYSICIAN RECOGNITION: HOW IT WORKS Blue Physician Recognition Steps Blue Cross recognizes physicians that demonstrates a commitment to delivering quality and patient-centered care based on BPR program guidelines. BPR program guidelines are based on widely accepted quality improvement methods performance measures and recognitions, including participation in national, regional, or community quality programs. Blue Cross determines which physicians and group practices receive BPR and submits their names for local and national display. Blue Cross will be submitting the names of physicians who are recognized by the Bridges to Excellence program The BPR icon is displayed in the provider finder tool to help patients quickly identify the physicians or group practices recognized by the Blues for their extra efforts in quality improvement. Physicians and group practices receiving Blue Physician Recognition are identified locally for integration into the provider finder tool.

5 More than 99 million Blue members can see the physicians and group practices recognized for their commitment to quality care. 5 BLUE PHYSICIAN RECOGNITION: BENEFITS The Blue Physician Recognition Program will… … highlight physicians or group practices as quality champions in the community. … encourage physicians and group practices to participate in additional quality improvement programs. … provide patients with an easy way to identify physicians and group practices committed to quality and patient-centered care as recognized by Bridges to Excellence
