Lances life Lance Edward Armstrong was born on September 18, 1971 in Plano Texas. Lance is an American professional road racing cyclist who has the record for wining the Tour de France. Lance was athletic from a really young age. He liked triathlons, but then he decided to focus more on cycling. Football is a very popular sport in Texas, so Lance wanted to try playing football but he lacked the coordination. He also competed in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Georgia and placed 12 th in the road race and 6 th in time trials. That October, came the shocking announcement that Armstrong had been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Luckily, he survived cancer. Lance now has a wife and three kids. Lance Armstrong retired from professional cycling February 16, 2011.

sponsors Lance Armstrong has a lot of sponsors. For example, Nike gives Lance his biking shorts, biking cleats and lots of his training gear. Trek provides him with his bikes and biking parts. Oakley gives him his riding glasses. Giro provides him his biking helmet.

Lances bike Trek is a really big bike company that makes mountain bikes and road bikes. Lance uses the Trek Madone 1274, which he used for all 6 Tour de France victories. Lance has been using Trek bikes since he became professional. Also lots of other professional riders use Trek bikes.

History of Tour de France The Tour de France is held ever year in Europe and then finishes in Paris. There are lots of teams that compete, such as Garmin, Astana, Liquigas and Lampre. The team that Lance is on is team Radio Shack. There are jerseys at the end for the fastest biker, fastest young biker and king of the hill. At the end, there is a big ceremony in Paris for the winners.

Livestrong Lance Armstrong created Livestrong after he fought cancer himself and came back to be the best biker in the world. Livestrong was founded in 1997. The Lance Armstrong foundation unites people that have fought cancer or people who want to help people with cancer. Livestrong has raised 250 million dollars for the fight against cancer. Important sponsors are Nike and Oakley.
