2 Qualifications.  GCSE English Language.  GCSE English Literature.

3 The New GCSE Structure  GCSE English is now unitised.  Units range from 4-8 weeks.  Each unit will focus on a particular skill or group of skills.  All units finish with a formal assessment.

4 Formal Assessments – Exams/Controlled Assessment. Formal Assessments Examination Controlled Assessment

5 Programmes of study GCSE English Language Unit 1 – Understanding and Producing Non-Fiction texts (40% Exam) Unit 2 – Speaking and Listening (20% Controlled Assessment.) Unit 3 – Understanding and creating written texts (40% Controlled Assessment.)

6 Programmes of study GCSE English Literature Unit 1 – Exploring Modern Texts (40% Exam) Unit 2 – Responding to Poetry (35% Exam) Unit 3 – Shakespeare and the Literary Heritage (25% Controlled Assessment)

7 Summary of the Course  Year 10  Complete all units for GCSE Language. (Some overlap.)  Year 11  Complete all units for GCSE English Literature.  Revisit weaker components/units from GCSE Language course.
