1 Session D1 Soft Skills Waged Employment Training

2 The difference between...  Knowledge: What to know? The things you know about your surroundings and your work.  Hard skill: What to do? The things that you do to be able to carry out your work.  Soft skill: How to be? The perspective and behavior we have in our work.

3 Definition  Soft skills are:  Personal attributes that enhance an individual's interactions, job performance and work prospects;  Beneficial for our overall interaction and participation in society, not just on livelihoods.  Interpersonal and broadly applicable.  Unlike hard skills are needed to start to work… you need soft skills to be successful !

4 What barriers to develop soft skills?  Low self esteem...  Attitude of dependency (when someone spends a lifetime of being excluded/ oppressed by others...)...  Some Pwds in a mourning process...  Few opportunity to live a successful situation...  Social image of Pwds often negative...

5 Examples of soft skills… First definition… 1) Personality traits such as: Optimism Common sense Responsibility Sense of humor Integrity Hard work 2) Abilities that can be practiced (and require the individual to really like to work with other people) such as: Initiative Teamwork Empathy Efficiency Leadership Communication Good manners Negotiation Sociability Creativity
