2  Content Area: Social Studies  Grade Level: 2 nd Grade  Summary: The purpose of this instructional PowerPoint is to allow students to learn more about the Spanish culture and different holidays they celebrate.  Learning Objective: Given several websites about the Spanish culture the learner will be able to distinguish the Spanish Culture and different activities in the culture with 100% accuracy.  Content Standard: 1.0 Culture encompasses similarities and differences among people, including their beliefs, knowledge, changes, values, and traditions. Students will explore these elements of society to develop an appreciation and respect for the variety of human cultures.  Accomplishments: 2.1.01 Understand the diversity of human cultures.  Recognize most cultures preserve important personal and public items from the past.  Recognize communities have customs and cultures that differ.  Recognize patterns of cultural traits such as language, religion, and family structure.

4  Spain has a Constitutional Monarchy. This means they have a king and a president that shares power.  Every Hispanic person has descendents from Spain.

They celebrate May 5 because the Spanish out numbered the French in great numbers.

9  The Spanish independence day is confused to be May 5, but the actual Spanish independence day is September 16.  Their independence day is celebrated just like we celebrate July 4 ( US independence day).

10  Spanish people love to be around family. They love life, eating, dancing, and having fun just like other cultures.  They play soccer for exercise and for fun.

11  Many Spanish children love to piñatas. Piñatas are use at birthday parties and other celebrations.  They are filled with candy and other treats.  The children are blind folded, and use a stick to knock all of the candy out of the piñata.
