1 INFORMATION SESSION Scholarships FACULTY OF GRADUATE AND POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES (FGPS) August 2012

2 Established in 1967 Engaged in developing the regulations and procedures pertaining to all graduate programs. Manages scholarships, registration, doctoral thesis, postdoctoral research scholarships and other academic processes, and provides expertise and advice to faculties regarding academic and registrar areas. Awards office: Information session in the spring and in the fall Submits scholarship applications to external agencies Provides consulting expertise to faculties, departments and students. 4 MASTER’S WITH THESIS : $30,000 FOR 2 YEARS  $7,500 per year paid by the FGPS (applied directly to your student account, $2,500 per session) and;  A matching component of $7,500* per year offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries. MASTER’S WITH RESEARCH PAPER : $15,000 FOR 1 YEAR Ph.D.  $9,000 per year paid by the FGPS (applied directly to your student account, $3,000 per session) and;  A matching component of $9,000* offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships, internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries. REQUIREMENTS :  Admission GPA of at least 8,0/10  Recommendation of the Academic Unit  You must register full-time and maintain this status for the duration of the scholarship. * Several academic units offer more financial support than the minimum indicated. 5 Full International Scholarship : Requires a minimum admission GPA of 8.0/10. $15,000 (M) or $18,000 (P) from FGPS applied directly to your student account, $5,000 or $6,000 per session) A matching component of $7,500 (M) or $9,000 (P)* per year offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries. Partial international scholarship : Requires a minimum admission GPA of 8.0/10. $7,500 (M) or $9,000 (P) from FGPS applied directly to your student account, $2,500 or $3,000 per session) A matching component of $7,500 (M) or $9,000 (P)* per year offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries. * Several academic units offer more financial support than the minimum indicated. 6  Amount is equivalent to tuition fees  Awarded to recipients of major external awards : CIHR, FRQ, NSERC, OGS, SSHRC and more. ( Programs at Telfer School of Management may not qualify*)  Awarded for the duration of the external award.  This scholarship will replace the Admission Scholarship.  There is no guarantee of a matching component from the academic units (however, many academic units continue with the matching component) * Contact the FGPS or the Telfer School of Management for more details. 7 Other FGPS Funding Sources Other FGPS Funding Sources Dean’s Scholarship:$500 - $4,000 Scholarship awarded to students who complete their degree within the specified period of time http://www.grad.uottawa.ca/Default.aspx?tabid=1473 Must be a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident in a thesis or non-professional type program Research travel grants Should the need arise to travel outside the region to conduct research or data collection which is directly related to a thesis in progress (up to $550) Conference travel grants Awarded to students who present the results of their research at a professional conference Financial support to students who organize a conference on campus Support for conferences held on campus by students (up to $500)

8 ONTARIO Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) QUÉBEC Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) - Fonds de recherche du Québec sur la société et la culture (FRQ - SC) - Fonds de recherche du Québec de la nature et technologie (FRQ - NT) - Fonds de recherche du Québec en santé (FRQ-S) Provincial Scholarships

9 All students who are considering pursuing graduate studies at a university in Ontario are eligible, including international students. Value : $15,000 ($10,000 from the ministry and $5,000 from the host institution) + Excellence Scholarships if attending the University of Ottawa (equivalent to tuition fees for the duration of the OGS up to a maximum of $10,000) Duration : One year (non-renewable) May be held during the 2 years of a master’s program or first 5 years of a Ph.D. program. (you must apply each year; 8-12 months before the funding begins) 3000 scholarships per year 2910 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents 90 for international students APPLICATION DEADLINE :? 12 Canada Graduate Scholarship  Canadian citizen or permanent resident  Intend to enroll full-time in your first graduate program in a Canadian institution recognized by NSERC  Must have a minimum GPA of 8.0/10 (A-) in each of the last two years of full-studies  $17,500 for 1 year at the Masters; $35,000 per year (2 or 3 years) at the Ph.D. Or Postgraduate Scholarships (funding can be taken abroad)  Same criteria as above  $17,300 for 1 year at the Masters; $21,000 per year (2 or 3 years) at the Ph.D. APPLICATION DEADLINE: October www.nserc.ca Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)
