www.hee.nhs.uk DEFINITION OF TERMS The long-term effects on later health or disease risk of physical or social exposures during pre conception, pregnancy, childhood, adolescence, young adulthood and later adult life Facilitate staff development so that they meet the needs of people who use services effectively and ensure equal access to education and training for all staff Promote multi disciplinary learning and skills development Provide a coherent learning and teaching platform from where further improvements and impact of education and training on outcomes for people could be measured Life Course Approach Psychological mindedness (PM) refers to a person's capacity for self-examination, self-reflection, introspection and personal insight. It is the ability interest and ability to be in touch with and reflect on his or her psychological states and processes. Psychological mindedness The state of being attentive to and aware of what is taking place in the present Examples of Interventions: Acceptance & commitment therapy; dialectical behavioural therapy; Mindfulness-based Cognitive therapy and Stress reduction; Mindfulness

The Future of Healthcare: Developing the workforce Many of tomorrow’s workforce are here today. Much greater priority needs to be given to developing the skills and competences of the current workforce, to better meet the needs of patients today and tomorrow…. Without building capacities and capabilities in our workforce for a world of continuous change and emergence of new roles and possibilities we risk being perpetually out of step and continually rebuilding our workforce to do yesterday’s, not tomorrow’s, health care work….
