2. The church is mentioned in a document dated 1199 as "San Joannes De Ficoccia" and was sujected to the parish of san Marcello. The name "Ficoccia" comes from the noble family the Roman "Ficoccia" a member whose abbot, was the owner the church itself, where there was also the way the church assumed the title of "Ficoccia. From a description of 1600 that the church was nave and not very extended: its structure is still clearly visible in the building at No. 29. In 1584, with it, was founded by Pope Gregory XIII, the College of the Maronites, for the training of clergy intended to carry out missionary activities in the East.
