3 © 2006 CDHS College Relations Group Buffalo State College/SUNY at Buffalo Research Foundation Vicarious Traumatization n What is it? –When we open our hearts to hear someone’s story of abuse, our beliefs can be challenged and we can be changed. –Vicarious Traumatization is a transformation of the helper’s inner experience resulting from empathic engagement with another’s trauma.

In what ways have they changed? Is that a result of your work? Do they reflect vicarious traumatization?
