1 Weekly Grammar Test Get out a pen or pencil and a piece of paper Directions: Step 1 : Identify each sentence as either, Active Tense or Passive Tense. Step 2: Re-Write one of the Passive Tense sentences in the Active Tense.

2 Weekly Grammar Test 1.Caitlin planted tomatoes between the rose bushes. 2.The truck was driven by Andy. 3.The lesson is being presented by Mr. Bertram and it is awesome! 4.The dog pooped in my neighbors yard.

3 Metaphor A thing regarded as representative or symbolic of something else Or A direct comparison between two unlike things without using the terms ‘like’ or ‘as’.

4 Extended Metaphor An extended metaphor is one where there is a single main subject to which additional subjects and metaphors are applied. Example: He is the pointing gun, we are the bullets of his desire. All the world's a stage and men and women merely players. Let me count my loves of thee, my rose garden, my heart, my fixed mark, my beginning and my end. (I am a Goose and my student are all part of my gaggle.)

5 Symbol Is any object,person, place or action that has both a meaning in itself and that stands for something larger than itself, such as a quality, belief or value. Example: The land in the novel Grapes of Wrath symbolizes resilience and hard work.

6 Totem Poles Totem poles are monumental sculptures carved from large trees.

7 Totem Pole Assignment Step 1: Choose an animal from the list that best symbolizes you. Step 2: Write an extended metaphor in which you compare yourself to that animal. Step 3: Using the paper and the colors, draw an image or symbol for the class totem pole. Be sure to write your extended metaphor on your drawing.
