Covering a Textbook Attention Grabber: How many of you despise that beginning of the year task of covering your textbook? Just follow these simple steps, and the next time you need to cover your textbook, it can be completed in a flash.

Preview Statement: First you must gather your materials, cut your paper, apply tape for extra strength, cover the textbook, tape it again for extra strength, and finally write the title of the book on the cover.

I. Gather all of the materials A.Paper to cover your book B.Yard or meter stick C.Pen/pencil D.Scissors E.Tape F.Markers Transition: Once you have all of your materials, you are ready to cut your paper.

II.Cutting the paper A. Measure the height of the textbook, then add about 2 ½ inches to the measurement B. Lay the paper out flat, put weights on the paper if it wants to roll up C. Using the measurement from before, measure the paper on each side and make a small straight mark D.From this mark, make a 1 ¼ inch mark E.Connect the two far marks together using a yard or meter stick F.Cut out on this line G.Place the yard or meter stick in front of the line and fold the paper towards the stick H.Make a tight fold I.Next place text book 1 / 8 inch from top on the right side and fold the paper towards the textbook, repeat this in the middle and at the end J.Make a tight fold

Transition: The next step is optional and is done for extra strength or durability. III. Taping the folds for extra strength A. Place the book in the center of the paper B. Place a small mark on the top and the bottom C. Unfold the paper D. Place a strip on the top of paper and on the bottom of the paper

Transition: Now it is time to actually cover the textbook. IV. Covering the textbook A. Place the book in the center of the paper B. Gently fold one of the sides over the top of the cover C. Tuck in the paper D. Flip book over and gently fold the other side over the back of the cover E. Tuck in the paper making sure the paper is equal on both sides, redo until perfect

Transition: Now it is time to actually cover the textbook. IV. Covering the textbook A. Place the book in the center of the paper B. Gently fold one of the sides over the top of the cover C. Tuck in the paper D. Flip book over and gently fold the other side over the back of the cover E. Tuck in the paper making sure the paper is equal on both sides, redo until perfect

Place tape on one side, making it the same length as the cover B. Cut and firmly secure tape on cover C. Repeat for all of the folded sides D. Carefully tape all of the folds

Transition: Now to add the final touches VI. Writing the title on the book A. Make sure the book is right side up B. Write the title of the book on the front cover, CAUTION: Be sure the marker does not go through the paper and onto the book C.
