Quick Reminder  When slope is positive:  When slope is negative:  When slope is zero:

Five Steps to Graph an Equation  Step 1: Put the formula in y-intercept form.  Step 2: Identify the slope and y-intercept coordinates.  Step 3: Plot y-intercept coordinates.  Step 4: Use slope to find a new point on graph.  Step 5: Connect the two points. Check with graphing calculator.

Example 1

Continued  Step 3: Plot y-intercept coordinates.  Step 4: Use slope to find a new point on graph.  Step 5: Connect the two points. Check with graphing calculator. y-intercept (0,-3) (1,-1)

Example 2  Step 2: Identify the slope and y- intercept coordinates. Slope = 1 y-intercept coordinates (0, 2)

Continued  Step 3: Plot y-intercept coordinates.  Step 4: Use slope to find a new point on graph.  Step 5: Connect the two points. Check with graphing calculator. y-intercept (0,2)(1,3)

Example 3

Continued  Step 3: Plot y-intercept coordinates.  Step 4: Use slope to find a new point on graph.  Step 5: Connect the two points. Check with graphing calculator. y-intercept (0,3) (4,0)

Example 4

Continued  Step 3: Plot y-intercept coordinates.  Step 4: Use slope to find a new point on graph.  Step 5: Connect the two points. Check with graphing calculator. (1,3)
