Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH Safety Concerns Ensure that your bowlers play with a weight that is neither too light nor too heavy. An indicator of correct weight is where the bowler can comfortably hold the ball on their palm and hold the arm out for a few seconds Most people will use the middle two fingers and thumb when holding the ball When picking the ball off the ball return rack bowlers should use two hands and place the hands where a ball cannot roll on the rack and trap the fingers Bowlers should bend their knees and keep the ball as close to themselves as possible and lift with the arms, legs and stomach muscles FUNdamentals Instructor

Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH Safety Concerns: Shoes and playing area Bowlers and coaches should always wear bowling shoes when stepping onto the approach House shoes and cheaper shoes from the Pro Shop will have a slide sole (leather) on both feet so that both a left handed and right handed bowler could use/buy the shoes As bowlers progress and are developing their average up towards 160 they should be looking at getting a pair of shoes that has a rubber sole (for grip/purchase) on their non- sliding foot. Coaches and bowlers should look out for liquid and sticky patches on the playing and seated areas When leaving the playing area for any reason either cover the sole with a protector or change or remove your shoes FUNdamentals Instructor

Level 1 - FOUNDATION COACH Bowling Etiquette Teach your bowlers to look out for bowlers either side of them who are ready to bowl The general rule is to give way to the bowler on the right when adjacent lanes are ready to bowl Ensure your bowlers are ready to bowl when its their turn Bowlers should stay on their own approach throughout their delivery Bowlers should not use someone else’s bowling ball When coaching on the approach area ensure you do not effect those on adjacent lanes Keep food and drink outside the playing and seated areas Play the game in a sporting manner Make sure your bowler waits for the sweep to lift before bowling FUNdamentals Instructor
