The Alcohol and other Drugs Resource Center at Western Illinois University provides services for Substance Abuse counseling, treatment, DUI Evaluations, DUI Risk education, Prevention Programs, and DUI Early Intervention that appeals to students at Western Illinois University. Thesis

Mission Statement The mission of the organization shall be to educate students, faculty and the greater community as a whole on healthy and responsible decision making in regards to alcohol and other drug consumption, to create and support alternatives to alcohol and other drug use on and off campus and to promote positive behavior changes.

Discourse Community This website mostly appeals to everyone. Most importantly abusers, friends, and family. This is seen through the website’s mission statement to help the entire university community in addressing concerns with alcohol and other drugs. AOD also provides various resources for individuals that are under the influence, or for someone that is a friend or relative to an abuser who is seeking help. These include, symptoms, tips, programs, self-assessments, etc.

The AOD website has information about mostly alcohol. It defines what alcoholism is, the symptoms of a hangover, how to cure a hangover and how to determine if someone has alcohol poisoning. The website also has self assessments for Alcohol and marijuana usage; BAC calculator. Webiste

Facts & Values: Definitions, Long term risks, Programs, Self-Assessments Prevent: long term problems, issues, and deaths. Trying to put a stop in College before it gets worse. College is on the line and much more. Enrolled for Higher Education, not for substance abuse is the policy the AOD preaches. Logos Appeal

Ethos: Has excellent credibility, appeals to alcohol and other drug victims at WIU, uses appeals to inform, help, and guidance to all in need. Multiple research has been put in to help. Pathos: Uses vocabulary and tips that students can recognize when dealing with alcohol and drug situation. (ex, How to deal with a Hangover) Helpful emotions to help those in need. Author uses specific appeals to help the best way they can for visitors of the website. Also, detailed tabs on specific information. Frequently Asked Questions: ● How much does an appointment at the AOD RC, alcohol and other drugs resource center? o Court-ordered evaluations for clients mandated to receive services by the state or by WIU’s Student Judicial Services are $100.00. The cost of DUI evaluation is $135.00 and a DUI evaluation update for the state is $90.00. The DUI Risk Education class series (4 classes/total of 10 hours) is priced at $120.00. Early intervention (individual or group) education is charged at $30/hour. Individual or group treatment sessions are also priced at $30/hour.
