1
Problem Global warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions
2
Effects Coastal flooding threatening small islands Food insecurity cause by drought Extinction of some animal species Desertification Climate change
3
Proposal Reducing global warming through carbon sequestration
4
Aims To reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere To provide pure CO 2 which can be used in Mining and formation of useful substances
5
Carbon Sequestration This is the artificial capture of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to a reservoir
6
Proposed Mechanism Carbon dioxide is capture from the air with NaOH NaOH + CO 2 Na 2 CO 3 + H 2 O Na 2 CO 3 is separated from Water Na 2 CO 3 is burnt to about 900°C in a kiln Na 2 CO 3 Na 2 O + CO 2 Na 2 O gotten is then dissolved in water to get NaOH for further capture Na 2 O + H 2 O 2NaOH Pure CO 2 gotten and: 1.Reacted with Oxides to produce useful substances 2.Compressed and stored for useful purposes 3.Returned to the ground as form of oil recycle
7
A model Air Contactor NaOH Tank Water Tank Collection tank Electric Kiln Pure CO 2 obtained
