The marching band provides music at MBHS home football games. Members of the band get into the games for free and have the BEST seats in the house. The marching band travels with the football team to away playoff games to show support. The marching band marches in two area parades which earns the band money. The marching band performs at “open house” events and freshman orientation. The marching band has a “band camp” which occurs before school starts in August. This helps us get a jump start on the music and drill positions for the halftime show. The marching band rehearses Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm – 5:30pm The football games most often occur on Fridays, though sometimes a Thursday or Saturday game is thrown in (Ex. Homecoming). The two parades are on Labor Day and the Saturday before Thanksgiving. They are in the morning and do not take away from the majority of your day off.

Let’s talk about college…. Marching band participation in college comes with scholarship opportunities. Depending on what instrument you play, the demand for the instrument, and whether or not you are a music major, scholarships can be anywhere from $1,000-$3,000 on average. Students also will have the opportunity to still enter these football games for free and perform on a national televised stage.

We’ll be playing music from the films, found on JW Pepper’s website (if you want to take a look at the music and listen to a recording). The sections will be divided into “houses” as seen in the trailer. Brass – Gryffindor Percussion – Slytherin Woodwinds – Ravenclaw Colorguard – Hufflepuff There will be theme days at band camp, “house” competitions, maybe even a quidditch match after rehearsal one afternoon. “Houses” will compete for points, and the “house” with the most points at the end of the season will win a special prize.
