Drill # 60 If the range of 4x + 2y = 8 is
{ -2, 0 , ½, 1 } Then find the following: 1. Domain (x) 2. table of values 3. mapping Inverse 5. the solution set

(17.) Linear Equation in Standard Form
Definition: an equation in the form Ax + By = C, where A, B, and C are any real numbers , and A and B are not both zero. All linear equations can be written in standard form. Examples: Non-examples:

Which of the following equations are linear
Which of the following equations are linear? Write them in standard form. Then state A, B, and C 6. 5y = 10 – 3x 7. y = 6 8. = 4y + 5x x = -4

Finding points from an equation
An example of a point Read worksheet, then complete #1-7. Remember to make an x, y chart.
6
Graphing Linear Equations
Make a table with x and y values. Find two ordered pairs. (pick a value for x and find y) Plot points. Draw a line through the points. Check your solution (find another point)
7
Graphing a linear equation
To graph a linear equation: 1. Find two points (x,y) that satisfy the equation. (substitute values for x) 2. Plot each point on the coordinate plane. 3. Draw a line connecting the two points. 4. Be sure to put arrows on the ends of the line. 5. Find a third point and check to see if it is on the line you graphed.
8
Hints for choosing values to find ordered pairs
Try x = 1 or x = 0, these are usually easy to substitute Also try y = 1, or y = 0 If x or y has a fractional coefficient, choose a number that is divisible by the denominator.
