That’s right! A calorie is a unit of energy and is displayed on food packets as Kcal. Our bodies break down the calories and turn them into energy to help us to move around.

Well Done! An active male should consume 2’400- 3’000 calories a day to maintain health and to produce enough energy for their active lifestyle. Whereas a sedimentary male would consume a lot less as they aren't as active as what an active male would be.

Question 4 What is the equation to calculate BMI? a) Weight/Height, Squared b) Weight X Height c) Weight + Height, Squared
13
Sorry! That’s not right, try again?
14
That’s right! To calculate your own BMI you must divide your Weight by your Height then square your answer. To get a correct answer you must use the same units for both height and weight. E.g Kg & Meters OR lbs & Inches. Correct weight for height, establish whether you are over/underweight. However BMI does not take into account muscle mass for people such as body builders (who may have a very low body fat level) but may be classed as obese due to the weight of the muscle
15
Question 5 Which age range should consume the most calories from this list? a) Active adult Male b) Adult Female c) Elderly People
16
Sorry! That’s not right, try again?
17
Correct! Adult males need more calories because they use more energy due to their larger muscle mass – the larger the muscle mass in a person the larger the calorific requirements to complete the same activity. (although the difference is not significant). Another factor would be that ACTIVE people burn more calories due to their lifestyle compared to someone who does very little..
