Proverbs 13:20 1 My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. 2 Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. 3 Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding your nearest kin, 5 That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words.

Proverbs 13:20 He is open to both the path of folly and the path of wisdom (6-7) – – simple- פֶּ ֫ תִי open-minded-open to the instruction of wisdom or folly, believing every word, lacking – – devoid of understanding- חֲסַר־לֵב – Two words #1-lacking, in need and #2 heart, mind, will Proverbs 7:6–7, “For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, And saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, A young man devoid of understanding,

Proverbs 13:20 She dresses her part (10) She is Loud and Rebellious (11) She is on the prowl for immorality (11-13) – – Proverbs 7:10–13, “And there a woman met him, With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart. She was loud and rebellious, Her feet would not stay at home. At times she was outside, at times in the open square, Lurking at every corner. So she caught him and kissed him; With an impudent face she said to him:

Proverbs 13:20 She dresses her part (10) She is Loud and Rebellious (11) She is on the prowl for immorality (11-13) She offers a false morality and religion (14- 15) – – Proverbs 7:14–15, “I have peace offerings with me; Today I have paid my vows. So I came out to meet you, Diligently to seek your face, And I have found you.”

Proverbs 13:20 She presents intimacy void of its design and danger (16-21) – – Proverbs 7:16–21, “I have spread my bed with tapestry, Colored coverings of Egyptian linen. I have perfumed my bed With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; Let us delight ourselves with love. For my husband is not at home; He has gone on a long journey; He has taken a bag of money with him, And will come home on the appointed day.” With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him.

Proverbs 13:20 He is open to both the path of folly and the path of wisdom (6-7) He is naïve to the dangers of life (8-9) His naivety turns to sin which leads to death (21-23) – – Proverbs 7:21–23 “With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, With her flattering lips she seduced him. Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, Till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, He did not know it would cost his life.”

Proverbs 13:20 Win the Battle of the Mind (24-25) – – Proverbs 7:24–25 24 Now therefore, listen to me, my children; Pay attention to the words of my mouth: 25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her paths; – – Proverbs 4:23 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Level the Playing Field (25) – – 1 Corinthians 6:18 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

Proverbs 13:20 Win the Battle of the Mind (24-25) Level the Playing Field (25) Remember the Fallen (26-27) – – Proverbs 7:26–27 26 For she has cast down many wounded, And all who were slain by her were strong men. 27 Her house is the way to hell, Descending to the chambers of death. – – 1 Corinthians 10:12 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Proverbs 13:20 Our current cultural landscape is littered with the remains of those that have fallen prey to sexual immorality and alongside these fallen are the broken homes, fatherless children and single mothers that become collateral damage. I ask you this morning, are you living carelessly like the naïve young man that eventually paid with his life?
