6. Mechanical:  Begins in the mouth with the teeth and tongue chewing food into pieces you can swallow Chemical:  Salivary glands produce enzymes (amylase), which breaks down complex carbohydrates to simple ones

8. Small intestine:  occurs in the last five meters of called the jejunum and ileum  villi increase the rate of absorption of nutrients Large intestine:  Accepts what the small intestine doesn’t absorb  Absorbs more water and concentrates the wastes
