Simulate biological magnification to show how organisms at the top of the trophic pyramid are most negatively affected by toxins, using DDT as the example.

7. Biological Magnification
Not only can energy be transferred up the trophic pyramid, but chemicals can be moved up the trophic pyramid as well.
If these chemicals are poisonous, their effects are most harmful to those organisms at the top of the trophic pyramid; this is called biological magnification.
DDT is a pesticide whose effect demonstrate biological magnification.

This is an activity that demonstrates the importance of the connections among the different components (both abiotic and biotic) in an ecosystem.
