INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY HANNAH WALKER

Artificial Lighting Assignment – Halloween Chosen 12 Images

Image 1 This is my favourite image that I took for this assignment. I love how the depth of field has worked in this image with the pumpkin light is sharp and in focus yet the rest of the image is out of focus. In this image I have used rule of thirds so that the image has more interest. The pumpkin light is the subject focus of the image and the whole image frame has been filled. I love how the colours work in this image with the orange and the black, they work well together and I think this is a good relevant image to Halloween. F - Stop : f /5.6 Exposur e time : 1/100 sec ISO : 3200 Focal Length : 53 mm

Image 2 These were a string of lights hung along a fence. I really like how the depth of field in this picture has made the 2 pumpkin lights in the front of the image and the one at the back out of focus yet the sharp point in the image is on the third pumpkin. The pumpkins along the string act as leading lines towards the part that is in focus. With how the second pumpkin is slightly higher than the others adds interest in that the image is distorted slightly. The whole image frame has been filled. For all of my images I used the manual setting. F - Stop : f /5 Exposur e time : 1/60 sec ISO : 1250 Focal Length : 43 mm

Image 3 The skeleton light in this image is the subject focus. The light is isolated as the rest of the image is black and this will lead viewers to think what else is possibly going on around this image. In this image I have used rule of thirds so that the subject wasn ’ t dead in the centre of the image so that it adds visual interest to the viewers. I haven ' t used any depth of field due to there being no other subjects in the picture it wasn ’ t necessary. F - Stop : f /4 Exposur e time : 1/40 sec ISO : 1000 Focal Length : 27 mm

Image 4 These were paper chains hanging across the ceiling. I like how only the one pumpkin has the light coming through and that the rest of the pumpkins are dark and so this makes it stand out. I like how with the paper cut outs of the pumpkins have 2 layers that there is a shadow making the image have a more spooky and Halloween effect. The chains act as leading lines throughout the image and the whole image frame has been filled. Rule of thirds is used with how the only pumpkin viewable is in the right vertical sector of the image. F - Stop : f /5.6 Exposur e time : 1/100 sec ISO : 3200 Focal Length : 42 mm

Aperture Assignment – Markets Chosen 14 Images

Image 1 This is my favourite image that I took for this assignment. I love how the sign and the oranges are in so sharp in focus and that the rest of the fruit stand is out of focus. The rest of the fruits act as leading lines toward the back of the image even though it isn ’ t in focus. In this image I have used rule of thirds with where the sign and oranges are in focus as it adds great interest to the image and also allows the rest of the image to be seen. For this image I have used a shallow depth of field. F - Stop : f /5.6 Exposur e time : 1/100 sec ISO : 1000 Focal Length : 55 mm

Image 2 This is another one of my favourites from this assignment. The quirky bath bomb in this image at the front was not staged and was already like that which is what caught my eye and made the image have a different edge to it compared to if they were all lined up the same. Having that one in focus and the rest out makes it stand out. They act as leading lines to the end of the image and I have used rule of thirds in this image with how the one in focus is on the 1 st vertical sector line. F - Stop : f /3.5 Exposur e time : 1/100 sec ISO : 2000 Focal Length : 21 mm

Image 3 Although this isn ’ t the best portraiture photograph, I like it because I this image I ’ m documenting a woman at the market taking an interest in what was there. In this image I have still used depth of field as she is in focus and the background isn ’ t which is showing use of aperture. I have used rule of thirds in this image with where the woman is stood. The whole image frame has been filled and she is the subject focus in the image. F - Stop : f /5 Exposur e time : 1/60 sec ISO : 125 Focal Length : 45 mm

Image 4 This is another image I love from the shoot which I took at the Leeds Christmas German Market. I ’ m really proud of this image with how the hanging decoration is pin sharp in focus and the rest of the decorations aren ’ t. I also love how the lighting in this image makes the gold and the silver on the ornament really stand out. I have used rule of thirds in this image with where the decoration is hanging and this image is taken using natural light. F - Stop : f /5.6 Exposur e time : 1/100 sec ISO : 3200 Focal Length : 42 mm

Lenses Assignment – Sports Chosen 11 Images

Image 1 For this image I used a fish eye lens. I chose to take this image of an old vintage sports car because you don ’ t see many of them anymore and I love the effect of the fish eye lens. In this image I have taken the image in natural lighting and used rule of thirds with where the light of the car is positioned in the image. F - Stop : f /20 Exposur e time : 1/125 sec ISO : 3200 Focal Length : 18 mm

Image 2 I took this image of the falcon because falconry is a sport within fox hunting where the dogs follow the falcon when hunting the dogs. I like how the effect of the fish eye lens has made the bird be seen differently and stand out in the middle showing like it is pushed out to the front of the lens. The bird is the subject focus of the image. F - Stop : f /22 Exposur e time : 1/125 sec ISO : 6400 Focal Length : 18 mm

Image 3 With the picture of this car I took it at a different angle to the one before. The light of the car really stands out in this image and I really like how the fish eye lens makes it easily identifiable that it is the subject focus of the image. Rule of thirds has been used in this image and no depth of field is used in this image. F - Stop : f /22 Exposur e time : 1/3200 sec ISO : 125 Focal Length : 18 mm

Shutter Speed Assignment – Water Chosen 15 Images

Image 1 This is a sea scape image taking with a slow shutter speed. This is my favourite image as I absolutely love how the pebbles on top of the groins add great interest to the image. These pebbles were not staged as I found them there. I love how the water appears to be calm. In this image the groins act as leading lines towards the water in the image. This image was taken in natural lighting. F - Stop : f /25 Exposur e time : 2 sec ISO : 1600 Focal Length : 35 mm

Image 2 I really like this image, however it is a little too over exposed for the length of time the lens was open. I love how the logs on the beach add a lot of interest to the image. I love how the sea looks really misty and calm. Rule of thirds is used in this image with where one of the logs are and no depth of field has been used. The whole image frame has been filled in this image. F - Stop : f /25 Exposur e time : 6 sec ISO : 100 Focal Length : 55 mm

Image 3 Due to my theme being water I took a slow shutter speed of this fountain. I love how you can see the trails of the water ad the points into the canal. This image has been taken in natural lighting and I have used rule of thirds with where the fountain is positioned in the picture. No depth of field has been used in this image. F - Stop : f /25 Exposur e time : 1/2 sec ISO : 200 Focal Length : 32 mm

Special Techniques Assignment – Urban Chosen 14 Images

Image 1 Although I really like the HDR effect on images, the only thing that annoys me is the glow you get when your editing the sky. Such as on the image above there is a glow of the buildings and when I tried to edit it so that there wasn ’ t so much of one, the detail and effect of HDR didn ’ t look as good. I still really like the image regardless. Although this image has not been edited to be selective colour of the buses, sign and flags, the HDR has made them stand out so well against the bleak background it has added great interest to the image. F - Stop : f /6.4 Exposur e time : 1/52 sec ISO : 64 Focal Length : 5 mm

Image 2 This is my panorama of London at the River Thames taken near the London Eye. This image can be described as a political look on London as well as the attractions as there are the houses of parliament and the mayors office in the image as well as the Big Ben and the offices across the river for security etc. I took this image using the panorama setting on my bridge camera and I am really happy with the result. This image uses natural lighting and rule of thirds with where the attractions are placed. F - Stop : f /6.4 / Exposure time : 1/250 sec / ISO : 64 / Focal Length : 5 mm

Image 3 This image is my favourite one I have edited. I love how the Trafalgar Square sign has had so much detail and lighting effect added to it, it makes the image a lot more visually interesting. I like the composition of this photo with how the sign is placed using rule of thirds but the buildings further away in the image blend in really well. This image hasn ’ t been edited to black and white so with how bleak the image originally looks the HDR effect really makes the colour on the sign stand out. No depth of field has been used in this image. F - Stop : f /5.6 Exposur e time : 1/240 ec ISO : 200 Focal Length : 90 mm
