BREASTFEEDING Breastfeeding is the best feeding for the baby & helps to develop the growth & development of the infant because it contain high amount of protein, vitamin & fat Breastfeeding is started immediately after baby birth.

Initiation of breast feeding
Breast feeding should be initiated within first half an hour to one hour of birth. In cesarean section breast feeding should be given within 4 hour. Early sucking provides warmth security & colostrums the baby’s first immunization. It helps in anti-infective factors & protects the baby from respiratory infection & diarrheal disease. Mother should be advised for exclusive breast feeding up to 4 to 6 months & as demand feeding.

Indicators of adequacy of breast feeding
Audible swallowing sound during the feed. Let sensation in mothers breast. Wet nappies 6 or more in 24 hours. Frequent soft bowel movement 3-8 times in 24 hours. Average weight gain of gm per day. Baby sleep well & dose not cry frequently. Baby has good muscle tone & health skin.

Techniques of breast feeding:-
Mother should be comfortabe and relaxed physically and mentally before giving breast feeding. She should wash her hands. She can have a glass of water or milk. Mother should have no due work in her hands Baby should be clean and dry before feeding. Correct positioinging of mother and baby is an important.

Techniques of breast feeding:-
Mother can be sitting or side lying position. Mother can be lying flat with infant on top of the mother. Baby should supported by mother’s fore arm in slight elevated position and with neck, head, & back in strait line The baby should be closed to mother

Lacthing:- Baby’s chick touches the breast,chick touches the nipple baby will open the mouth “rooting reflex”. The baby will be quickly move on the breast The baby suckles again and again in regular slow deep sucks with good reflex.

The breast feeding can be given at 1-2 hr intervals
Duration:- continue the baby’s satisfaction “burping”- usually not necessary Baby should be placed on right side after feeding. Continue breast feed upto:- 4-6 months Complimentary food:- starts 4-6 months

The baby who dose not suckle. The baby who refused on breast. Inverted nipple. Sore nipple. Breast engorgement. Breast abscess. Working mother.

Prevention of infection
Personal hygiene is the best method. Rub a small amount of milk into your nipple after feeding. Keep your nipple clean and dry. If your nipple became painful ask your health care provider for advice. Wash hand properly.

Breast feeding tips Care of the breast after breast feeding by rinsing with clear water to wash away any saliva. Avoid wearing clothing. Change nursing pad. Breast care & hygiene. Nipple care. Before breast feeding first mother should be cleen.

What food should be use Meat , fish, cheese, vegetables, legume & fruits are essential. Eat abundant fruits & vegetables every day. Do not drink a lot of milk because it may cause allergy to the baby.
