The Gospel In Noah’s Genealogy * The Hebrew Roots for the Names *

Adam : ( “Man” ) “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) Basically means, “red earth.” All flesh is white without the blood! We come in multi-colored “wrappers,” however. Chicken breast is “white” meat. Duck breast is “dark” meat. Why? Myoglobin released for oxygen !

Seth: ( “appointed” ) “For God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain Slew.” (Genesis 4:25”) cf: Gen. 4:1 – “And Adam [Ish] knew Eve [Isha or Adama] his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, ‘I have gotten a man from / against the LORD.” Note: Cain was conceived after they sinned! They would have naturally had relations before the Fall, but God possibly prevented any conceptions.

Enosh: ( “mortal” ) Also means “frail” or “miserable” from the root anash, to be incurable, used of a wound, grief, woe, sickness, or wickedness.

Kenan: ( “sorrow” ) Also can mean “wandering nomad.”

Mahalalel: ( “the Blessed God” ) Hebrew names often include “El,” one of the names of God, as in “Dani-el.”

Jared: ( “ shall come down” ) From the verb “yaradh,” a possible reference to the “Sons of God” corrupting the daughters of men, resulting in the Nephilim or “mighty men” of Genesis 6.

Enoch: ( “teaching” ) He was the first of four generations of preachers. The earliest recorded prophecy was by Enoch, which dealt with the Second Coming of Christ. (Jude 14 & 15)

Methuselah: ( “his death shall bring”) From the root “muth,” meaning “death” and from “shalak” which means, “to bring.” Methuselah’s father, Enoch, was given a prophecy of the coming Great Flood, and was apparently told that as long as his son was alive, the judgment of the Flood would be withheld. It came the year that Methusalah died!

Lamech: ( “despairing” ) This Hebrew root also seems to lie behind our English word, “lamentation.”

Noah: ( “to bring relief” or comfort” ) Root linked to “nacham.” (Gen. 5:29)

What message do we then have if we list the genealogy of Noah by translating the Hebrew into the English?

{{ Hebrew Adam……………………. Seth……………………… Enosh……………………. Kenan…………………… Mahalalel……………….. Jared……………………... Enoch……………………. Methuselah…………...... Lamech………………...... Noah…………………….. English Man Appointed Mortal Sorrow The blessedGod Shall Come Down Teaching His Death Shall Bring The Despairing Comfort, or Rest

Adding proper grammar: “Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest.”

Jesus’ Genealogy In Matthew: Designed by God, Or A Coincidence? Try to design any genealogy, of an actual person, which has the following parameters, all divisible by the number 7 evenly: 1.) The number of words 2.) The number of letters 3.) The number of vowels and consonants 4.) The number of words that begin with a vowel 5.) The number of words that begin with a consonant 6.) The number of words that occur more than once

7.) The number of words occurring in only one form 8.) The number of words occurring in more than one form 9.) The number of nouns 10.) Only seven words will not be nouns 11.) Only seven other kinds of nouns are permitted 12.) The number of names in the genealogy 13.) The number of male names 14.) The number of generations must be 21 (divisible by 7)

This is the genealogy of Christ Jesus, the Messiah, found in the Greed of Matthew’s Gospel! The number “ 7” in Scripture often means the number of completion or perfection.
