Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring Knowledge area defines the tasks associated with planning and monitoring of Business Analyst Activities, including: Identifying stakeholders Defining roles and responsibilities of stake holders in the business analysis effort Developing estimates for Business Analysis tasks Planning how the business Analyst will communicate with stakeholders Planning how requirements will be approached, traced and prioritized Determining the deliverables that the business analyst will produce Defining and determining business analysis processes Determining the metrics that will be used for monitoring business analysis work

Stakeholder and Stakeholder Analysis
Who is a stakeholder in a project? A stakeholder is any person or organization, who can be positively or negatively impacted by, or cause an impact on the actions of a company. Types of stakeholders are: Primary stakeholders : are those ultimately affected, either positively or negatively by corporation's actions. Secondary stakeholders : are the ‘intermediaries’, that is, persons or organizations who are indirectly affected by corporation's actions. Key stakeholders : (who can also belong to the first two groups) have significant influence or importance in corporation. Stakeholder analysis has the goal of developing cooperation between the stakeholder and the project team and, ultimately, assuring successful outcomes for the project. A stakeholder analysis is performed when there is a need to clarify the consequences of envisaged changes, or at the start of new projects and in connection with organizational changes generally. It is important to identify all stakeholders for the purpose of identifying their success criteria and turning these into quality goals.

Plan Business Analysis Approach
Purpose: This task describes how to select an approach to performing business analysis, which stakeholders need to be involved in the decision, who will be consulted regarding and informed of the approach and the rationale for using it. Description: Business Analysis approaches describe the overall process that will be followed to perform business analysis work on a given initiative, how and when tasks will be performed, the techniques that will be used and the deliverables that will be performed. Inputs: Business Need Expert judgment Organizational Process Assets Elements: Plan Driven: approaches focus on minimizing up-front uncertainty and ensuring that the solution is fully defined before implementation begins in order to maximize control and minimize risk. Change Driven: approach focus on rapid delivery of business value in the short iterations in return for acceptance of higher degree of uncertainty regarding the overall delivery of the solution.

Techniques: Decision Analysis Process Modeling Structured Walkthrough Stakeholders: Customer, Domain SME, End User or Supplier Implementation SME Project Manger Tester Regulator Sponsor Output: Business Analysis Approach: This is the definition of the approach that will be taken for business analysis in a given initiative. A business analysis approach may specify team roles, deliverables, analysis techniques, the timing and frequency of stakeholder, interaction and other elements of the business analysis process.

Conduct Stakeholder Analysis
Purpose: The task covers the identification of stakeholders who may be affected by a proposed initiative or who share a common business need, identifying appropriate stakeholders for the project or project phase and delivering stakeholder influence and/or authority regarding the approval of project deliverables Description: Stakeholder analysis is performed as soon as a business need is identified and will usually be an ongoing activity as long as business analysis continues. Inputs: Business Need: Identify and analyze the position of the stakeholders affected by the business need. Enterprise Architecture: Describes the organizational units that exist the interactions with other organizational units, customers, suppliers, their responsibilities within the organization and the roles and relationships within each organizational unit. Organizational Process Assets: These include organizational policies and procedures, forms that must be completed, suggested or prescribed methodologies, templates and project authorization guidelines.

Purpose: Determine the activities that must be performed and the deliverables that must be produced, estimate the effort required to perform that work and identify the management tools required to measure the progress of those activates and deliverable. Description: Business Analyst determines which activities are required for a given imitative, how those activities will be arrived out, the work effort involved and an estimate of how long the activities will take. The task includes activities to: Identify Business Analyst deliverables Determining the scope of work for the business analysis activities Determine which activities the business analyst will perform and when Develop estimates for business analysis work

Purpose: Business Analysis communications plan describes the proposed structure and schedule for communications regarding business analyst’s activities. Description: Planning business analyst’s communications includes determining how best to receive, distribute, access, update and escalate information from project stakeholders and determining how best to communicate with each stakeholder. Plan Requirements Management Process
Purpose: Define the process that will be used to approve requirements for implementation and manage changes to the solution or requirements scope. Description: The task determines the appropriate requirements management process for a particular initiative. It includes determining the process for requirements change which stakeholders need to approve change, who will be consulted or informed of changes and by extension, who does not need to be involved. The task also includes assessing the need for requirements tractability and determining which requirements attributes will be captured.

Purpose: To manage the performance of Business analysis activities to ensure that they are executed as effective as possible. Description: This task covers determining which metrics will be used to measure the work performed by the business analyst. It includes how to track, assess and report on the quality of the work and take steps to correct any problems that may arise. This may lead into the development of future business analysis plans. The selected metrics are determined described in the organizational process assets or the business analysis plans.
