Meet the Teacher -This will be my seventh year teaching and the first year teaching 2 nd grade at West Clayton. -I received a bachelors degree from North Carolina State University and teaching certification from East Carolina University. -My children and I live in Garner.

Class Website -You can find a link to our class website from the WCES home page. Search the staff directory for Katina Snipes. -Check the website weekly for updates, news and announcements.

Behavior Management In our classroom we use a clip chart. Each day your child will be given a grade on their agenda. It must be initialed nightly to let me know that you are aware of daily conduct. Most of the time your child will be on Green. This is where they will start each day and THIS IS GOOD!

Lunch and Snack All lunch money is due MONDAY. Send lunch money to school in the envelope found in communication folder. Lunch is $2.15 Breakfast is $1.35 Ice cream is 60 cents Snacks must be sent from home. If you can, please donate extra snack for our class. This is for students who forget to bring it.

Reading Reading will be fiction and non-fiction stories from textbooks and other sources. Small groups and centers will be implemented using the Daily 5 Program. Read to Self Read to Someone Listen to Reading Word Work Work on Writing Meet with Teacher *Tests will be given on comprehension

Math Whole group lessons will be taught to introduce new skills. Students must be able to add and subtract fluently. Weekly timed tests will be given on Fridays. Tests and Quizzes will be given on each skill.

Writing We will be using the 6 Traits writing program. Slowly introducing each skill until all are learned. Idea Organization Voice Word Choice Sentence Fluency Conventions

Daily Schedule 8:20-8:50- Morning Work 8:50- 10:45- Guided Reading and Daily 5 10:45-11:25- BEP 11:25- 11:50- Read Aloud 11:50-12:20-Lunch 12:20-1:00- Fundations 1:00-1:30- Recess 1:30-2:30- Math 2:30-3:30 Science/ Social Studies 3:30 Snack/Pack and Dismissal

Special Classes Students will have an eight day rotation. Our schedule is as follows: Day 1 Art Day 2 P.E. ** Day 3 Technology Day 4 Media Day 5 Guidance Day 6 P.E. ** Day 7 Music Day 8 Guidance ** On P.E. days please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and dresses appropriately.

Transportation I will need to know how your child will be getting home from school the first day and how each day after that. Please fill out the lime green sheet and return to me before you leave. Car Rider Numbers are located in the Media Center. Bus Rider information is located in the Cafeteria. Let me know your bus number. If there is a change in transportation please notify me in writing. Please do not email me the change because I do not check my email during the instructional day. If there is a last minute change please notify the office.

Grading Math and Reading tests will be given at random times. Check the classroom webpage to see upcoming tests. Report cards go home every 9 weeks. There are 4 grading periods in a school year. Progress reports go home in the middle of each grading period.

Assessments We will use the following assessments; MAP in both reading and math Mclass: Fall, winter, and spring Dibels (fluency) Reading levels

Parent Involvement Must be approved by the county on a yearly basis

Homework * Homework will be given each night in Math and Reading with the exception of Fridays and weekends. *Math is due on Friday. *Reading logs are checked on a daily basis. They MUST be initialed. If it is not initialed it means that reading was not completed.
