Community Service Project December 15 – March 31, 2015 Calling all knitters and crocheters. The NMPL Knit Wits Group invites you to participate in our annual Community Service Project. We are making chemo caps, hats, mittens, scarves, lap blankets and prayer shawls to be donated to 3 organizations. Pick up a handout at the Circulation Desk. Adult Winter Reading Program January 5 – February 27 1. Sign up. 2. Read any format of books. 3. Submit a review. 4. Enter the weekly drawings for gift certificates to local businesses. A final drawing will be held for three grand prizes: 1) iPad Mini, 2) Kindle Fire, 3) Certificate to Bank Street Book Nook. This program is supported through the generosity of the FRIENDS of NMPL.

eBooks at the Library January 5, 12 & 26 This is an open Q&A session for New Milford residents who would like help setting up their downloadable library eBooks. Bring you device, your library card and your questions. No appointment is necessary, just walk in. There are going to be 3 sessions in January: January 5, January 12 and January 26.

Meet the Computer January 5, 7 at 1:00 PM In this course from 1 -3 PM each day, you will learn how to use the keyboard and the mouse. No experience is necessary for this relaxed, fun class. Register at the Circulation Desk or call 860-355-1191 x201.You must attend the first session to continue with the second half of the class.

Evening Book Discussion January 1 at 6:30 PM Abby Ripley, a New Milford resident, has graciously agreed to be the facilitator of this group and has come up with a terrific list of books. The book for January is “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout and the library will provide the books. The group is limited to 10 people, so please call 860- 355-1191 x201 to sign up.

Children in the Civil War January 7 at 6:30 PM NMPL is proud to present a program by Peter Vermilyea who will discuss the plight of the children of the Civil War including issues surrounding them such as: 1) Northern vs. Southern 2) Wealthy vs. Disadvantaged and 3) the expectations of adults. NMPL’s Writers’ Group January 8 at 6:30 PM Are you a writer? Looking for support, encouragement, and critique? Then join our Writers' Group facilitated by Dennie DeBellis. We will meet the first (1st) Thursday of the month from 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the Connecticut Room. The group is limited to 8, so please register soon either online or by calling 860-355-1191 x201.

Monday Movies at NMPL January 12 at 1:00 PM Come view foreign films and discuss them. This month in this free series we will feature “84 Charing Cross Road.” The film is in English and stars Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins. It is rated PG. Light refreshments and a discussion will follow the presentation.

Introduction to eMail January 14, 21 at 1:00 PM You’ve been using email for some time now, but things are getting messy. This class teaches you helpful email skills, including how to use your email address book and junk mail filters. Register at the Circulation Desk or call 860-355-1191, x 201. You must attend the first meeting in order to continue with the second half of the class.

Hear Better, Live Better January 21 at 6:30 PM Scott Adamsons, of Hearing Aid Specialist of CT, will present a free seminar on why we can hear, but not always understand what is being said. This one hour interactive seminar will include time for questions and answers. So come learn about hearing loss and how it affects you and your loved ones. Science Fiction Book Group January 21 at 6:30 PM Marilyn Gunerman, a New Milford resident, has graciously agreed to be the facilitator of this group. All book choices are drawn from award winners. The group meets the third (3 rd ) Wednesday of the month in the Connecticut Room. The library will provide the books. The group is limited to 10 people, so please call to sign up.

Friday Forum – January 23 at 1:00 PM in Memorial Hall This is our monthly series where we host a mystery book discussion group. This month's book is “Booked To Die” by John Dunning. We provide the books and you provide the insight! The group is limited to 15 people, so please check if there is room by calling 860- 355-1191 x203.

iPad iOS 8 January 26, 28, February 2, 4 This course is a complete introduction to using the iPad including all of the exciting new features from iOS 8 and preinstalled apps. Register at the Circulation Desk or call 860-355-1191, x 201. This course will meet four times. You must attend the first session in order to continue with the rest of the class.

“Reel Justice” Film Series January 17 at 6:00 PM Introducing a new film series! “Reel Justice: Great Courtroom Dramas”. This series, selected and hosted by Mark Hasskarl, NMPL Director, will offer a total of 10 films shown monthly on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM. This free series will also offer film notes and refreshments.
