TTaught over 16 years -5 th grade and above MMaternity substitute for 3 rd and 4 th grades 111th year as a full-time teacher at Kaneland I live in Elburn with my husband, John, and have five children: Isaac (IL), Leiza(NC)-NASCAR/American Lemans Racing, Perren(MN) – Aldridge Engineering, Keara and Andre(TN) – Milligan College.

Common Core Curriculum Computation Drills How to help: Work on facts. Begin with multiplication and then work on division.(Goal – Secure by December.) Check to make sure their work is complete, and they have the right answer. If it is a “try me” sheet, let them try, and parents can help explain. Accuracy is important and students need to show their work.

Reading/Writing – B alanced Literature Approach Strategies/Small Groups/Novel Studies/Literature Circles Monthly Reading Calendar - 20 minutes per week night Writing Workshop- Lucy Calkins Word Study –Monday/Tuesday to Friday How to help: HHelp keep the reading calendar. RRead with your child. Ask questions and discuss any book, movie, or situation. Ask the questions why and how. PProvide writing situations and remind them of rules in punctuation and capitalization.

US History from Exploration to Civil War Textbook and Nystrom Projects How to help: Proofread essays for grammar, capitalization, focus, and organization (topic sentence, details, and conclusion). Help review for tests.

Daily assignments will be posted on the assignment poster and Konnect. Students copy these into their own notebooks. Occasionally, time will be provided during the day to work on assignments (except minutes for Reading Calendar). There should be about 30 to 60 minutes of homework on weekday nights. All assignments not completed at the end of the day become homework and are due the next day unless told otherwise. I will try to send the assignments home if students are absent.

Based on the Six Pillars of Character Each month a student from the classroom is recognized for demonstrating a particular character trait. In addition, one student will be recognized based on his or her demonstration of the character traits, academics, behavior, leadership, etc. Our Learning Environment.
