Ten Things to Know before you Try out for the LHS Golf Team
2
#1 Be prepared! Besides practice, practice, and more practice, be prepared for anything. Such as… Have gear for bad weather, such as towels, umbrella, extra gloves, etc. Sun block for sunny days You may even bring bug spray
3
You need to get up early, so have a good alarm clock, and get plenty of rest! Get your physical on file And don’t forget your greens fees. Call me to let me know you’re trying out.
4
#2 Get your equipment together Fourteen clubs, maximum. Have proper equipment—this club is against USGA specs! And sorry, no caddies.
5
#3 Wear proper golf attire! Not like this. Or this And please, not like this Wear a collared shirt and decent shorts please.
6
If you’re going to wear a hat, wear it properly, and make sure it is golf-related and clean. This gentleman looks sharp.
7
#4 Learn some golf etiquette Being quiet on the course is important—you should not be a distraction to other golfers Always turn your cell phones off and store them in your bag—they are against the rules to have during a round.
8
#5 Maintain your pace of play. Be sure to keep up with the group ahead of your group. Talk less and focus on your next shot. And keep your pre-shot routine short. One practice swing is plenty!
9
The Slow Play Police Force is out there monitoring your play !
10
Always help your playing partners look for lost balls.
11
#6 Act accordingly Control your emotions at all times. Absolutely no swearing, throwing of clubs, etc. You will be sent home and suspended from the team.
12
#7 Never, ever cheat. Golf is a game of honor. There is no place for cheaters in the LHS Golf Program.
13
#8 Learn the rules of the game, and always play by them. I’m guessing, but this is probably a case of a golfer playing a ball from out of bounds. Be sure you know your options if you hit one out of bounds.
14
Be sure you know your options for playing from a water hazard.
15
Also, bad breaks happen, so be sure to review your options for an unplayable lie like this one.
16
And just in case it rains, know what to do if you encounter casual water on the course. This golfer should have been entitled to a free drop at his nearest relief.
17
#8 Always be considerate of your playing partners. Introduce yourself on the first tee, and exchange scorecards Tell your partner what brand of ball you are playing, and make a distinguishing mark on your ball. Let partner know if you change balls during the round.
18
On the green, don’t walk in their line. Stay still while they are putting, and don’t stand in their field of vision.
19
#9 Keep your score card neat. It must be readable and accurate. Once round is complete, you should sign it, then have your playing partner sign it attesting to its accuracy.

#10 Your numbers are important to the LHS Golf Team’s Success The lower your scores, the better our season. So work hard on your game, especially your short game. Here are some target numbers: 40 A good nine-hole score 14 The average number of putts you wish to average for 9 holes 6 The average number of fairways hit by your tee shot for 9 holes 160 A good team score for a 9 hole match 5 The number of dollars it takes for a sandwich at Subway Practice, practice, practice!
