3 Water and its DivisionsWater and its Divisions Water is further divided into 5 types;Water is further divided into 5 types; 1.Pure and Purifying1.Pure and Purifying 2.Pure and Purifying, but disliked for purification as a small amount that a cat or similar animal has drank from it 3.Pure, but not purifying; water that has been used to remove a legal impurity or water used to make Wudu upon Wudu with the intention of Nearness to God 4.Water that is Najis (Impure) – this would be still water into which an impurity has fallen. 5 Water that is OverwhelmedWater that is Overwhelmed Water can be overwhelmed when mixed with solids, it if losses its ‘thinness’ and ‘flowing nature’, but is not harmed if mainly its ‘adjectives’ are affected through mixing with saffron, fruit or tree leaves Water can be overwhelmed when mixed with solids, it if losses its ‘thinness’ and ‘flowing nature’, but is not harmed if mainly its ‘adjectives’ are affected through mixing with saffron, fruit or tree leaves. Water is overwhelmed when mixed with liquids, if one attribute of the other liquid appears, when the liquid has two attributes only, like milk; it has colour and taste but no smell, or two attributes from a liquid that has three attributes, like vinegar. 6 Water that is OverwhelmedWater that is Overwhelmed If the liquid has no attributes, like used water, or rose water that has stopped having a smell, then ‘overwhelmed’ should be decided by weight. If two pounds or used water mix with a pound of plain water, it is not permissible to use for Wudu, and if the reverse case, it is permissible. Module 1 – Fiqh of Tahara

7 The Remnants of WaterThe Remnants of Water If an animal drinks from little water, the remaining water is Su’r and is of 4 types; 1)Pure and Purifying from which drank a human, horse or animal whose flesh can be eaten 2)Najis and cannot be used, from which drank a dog, a pig or carnivorous animal like a leopard or wolf 3)Disliked in the presence of an alternative, from which drunk a cat or a roaming chicken, predatory birds like a falcon eagle or a mouse, but not a scorpion 4)Doubtful water from which drank a mule or donkey unless there is no alternative, so he may make Wudu then Tayammum Module 1 – Fiqh of Tahara

11 A Discussion on WellsA Discussion on Wells If an animal falls in the water, and its saliva reaches the water, then the ruling follows the ruling of the saliva (ruling of the dog) If we find a dead animal in the well, and we do not know when it fell in the water, then we consider its water as Najis for a day and night before the time we found it. If that dead animal was also bloated, then it is considered Najis for 3 days and 3 nights. Module 1 – Fiqh of Tahara
