PICTURE ¬ Luxembourg - 2006 September 22 Miloš Drdácký, ITAM Built Heritage Diversity – role in tourism Built heritage in historic cities should be considered The most substantial attractor for visitors in HC An asset presented in a way which enables to understand and appreciate it in its historic context as well as a part of a living unique city organism In its urban spatial and artistic complexity and unity For continuous creation of high quality environment Historic cities should be prevented to be used as simple Empty stages which are to be filled with new activities Open air museums displaying dispersed heritage objects Space for alien MT needs (uncontroled parking)

Generally - a lack of statistical data on impacts from CT Only very few case studies during the last 25 years Difficulties to separate the impact of tourism (e.g. large number of visitors) from other agents & influences Positive & negative impact - different points of view Project results in this field are focused on: Impacts and risks in relation to individual historic objects Impacts and risks in relation to sites and urban areas
