2 NORMAPME The European horizontal organisation exclusively devoted to the interests of Crafts and Small and Medium sized Enterprises in the European standardisation system (ESS). Currently represented by 52 technical experts in 59 TCs at CEN, CLC, ETSI and ISO. Representing 12 M enterprises.

5 Survey on SMEs participation at national level 2010: 18 answered, only 6 NSOs sent accurate data out of 30; 2011: 4 NSOs contributed.

6 NORMAPME SME – Cases: Tourism: Can every family hotel afford to employ an environmental engineer to comply with the standard? Doors and windows: Cost of tests between 5000 and 10.000 per window type is an unbearable financial burden for SMEs. eHealth: Fora and consortia specifications should be recognised but SMEs have to play a role proportionate to their global weight.

7 Some more cases: Roofing: With the help of N. international and European representatives of crafts or SMEs (such as IFD) have more possibilities to participate in TC activities. Lifts: Standards are used by some multinational companies to push SMEs out of the market. Food machinery: If the NORMAPME expert had not reacted, bars and restaurants would have been at the mercy of only one supplier.
