Living Waters Wednesday Teaching C. Holoman-#16 Prayer January 28, 2009

Encourage diligence in your Read the Bible Through in a Year Today Exodus 1-4 So far this year: Genesis & Job From Daily Bible Reading this week Genesis and Job, pre-Mosaic, principle Book of Job and creation beginning and end Gen 1:1 & Rev 21:1

And Keep the Sabbath Holy, it is the Feast of Remembrance for Creation and First Fruits (Resurrection). Every Sabbath Specifically call into Remembrance as a bare minimum: Exodus 31:13-17 & Deut 5:15 and the resurrection dimension of the gospel.

Today About Prayer specifically prayer for healing. Prayer for healing is in the context of all prayer: both personal and a priestly ministry.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. God gives us scripture, not for just knowing, but for effect! Knowing without doing produces guilt not joy and fruit.

The greater familiarity with the whole of scripture, the greater our understanding and confidence will be and the more transparent we will be to its influence. We do not hold scripture over God’s head; He holds it over our heads and invites us to enter the worldview of His will.

When Prayer Faces Panic Exodus 4:1 Then Moses answered, "But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, `The LORD did not appear to you.'" 2 The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod." 3 And he said, "Cast it on the ground." So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4 But the LORD said to Moses, "Put out your hand, and take it by the tail.. What do we have in our hands? Are we afraid to pick it up? For most church-folks, yes!

Ref. To Passover Remembrances (Believers were expected to remember this because it was in the annual Passover) Psalm 105:37 He brought them forth (from Egypt) also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. Healing was included in the historical deliverance package.

The First Revelation of God to Corporate Israel Exodus 15:24 And the people murmured against Moses,.. 25 And he cried to the LORD;.. There the LORD made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he proved (a test of hearkening Ex 19:5-6) them, 26 saying, " If (you will diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD your God) (in hearkening you will hearken), and do that which is right in his eyes, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I put upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD, your healer."

What Hearkening would hear Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if (in hearkening you will hearken) ( you will obey my voice and keep my covenant), you shall be my own possession among all peoples; for all the earth is mine, 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Note hearkening implies both receiving information and doing doing the instruction.

Proverbs 4:20 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to him who finds them, and healing to all his flesh. As as a kingdom of functioning priests, we are supposed to do this for ourselves and minister this to others.

James 5:14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer of faith will ‘save’ (heal, save, whole, deliver) the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. (Portrays a balanced priestly ministry, not just to relieve the distress of sickness.)

How do we get to this place of balanced priestly prayer?

How do we get to this prayer place? John 8:31 Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. Believing is not identical to continuing.

How do we get to this prayer place? John 15:7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.

But you say, I love Jesus, isn’t that enough? John 14:23 Jesus answered him, " If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.
