Followers of Jesus must not abdicate from the authority of the Bible in the issues of the day.
4
The claims of a compromised faith: The Bible is not reliable or consistent enough to use as an authority on contemporary issues. Christians do not have to believe the Bible. The Bible must be re-interpreted based upon new values, such as … Tolerance = Acceptance Biblical convictions of holiness = Intolerance, Hatred, and should be eradicated “God is love” means we ignore what the Bible defines as sin (any sin, especially our pet sin).
5
Our Response: Rooted in the authority of the Bible. Proverbs 29:18 NIV Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. Love shares the truth and does not ignore sin. Love does not hate, persecute, or scheme. Sin must be called sin in agreement with God. Sin must be repented of in order to receive the power of Christ’s forgiveness.

Ephesians 4:10-16 NIV 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 10 11 12 13 10 11 12 13

What is our authority in these matters? 14 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. 15 16 14 15 16

What is our authority in these matters? 17 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. 18 19 17 18 19

What is our authority in these matters? 20 20 You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21 Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 21 22 23 24 25 20 21 22 23 24 25

What is our authority in these matters? 26 26 "In your anger do not sin" F12 : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. 28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. What is our authority in these matters? 1 John 1:5-10 NIV 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 6 7 8 6 7 8

What is our authority in these matters? 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 9 10 9 10

We are witnesses of this. 16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see. 17 "Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. 16 17 15 16 17

John 8:9-11 NIV 9 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they?
